LUNA PARK DYSTOPIA
Utopia describes an imaginary community or society that possesses highly desirable or near-perfect qualities for its members. It was coined by Sir Thomas More in his 1516 book Utopia, which describes a fictional island society in the New World. Its etymology comes from the Greek Eutopia, good (or well) place.
Dystopia is an imagined state or society in which there is great suffering or injustice, typically one that is totalitarian or apocalyptic.
Luna Park, the amusement park in St Kilda, Melbourne has brought happiness to thousands of families since 1912. Although much gentrified, St Kilda has been a suburb of contrast in which homeless, wealthy, children, elder, bankers, musicians, athletes and poets coexist some kind of harmony. One could see this as utopia or perhaps dystopia.
