URBAN SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Urban symphony alludes to the interplay of the sports precinct, the arts precinct and the natural waterfront precinct depicted in this piece. The literal meaning is know to most of us and could get a good sense of where in Melbourne are the various frames or zoom ins.
Beginning from top-left we see the Yarra river, City of Melbourne and South Bank. Top-middle frame depicts the Sidney Mayer music bowl with Melbourne's skyline, the music bowl is hosting a concert. The music bowl is reminiscent of the Greek and Roman amphitheatres. The top right frame is Melbourne's sports precinct including Melbourne Rod Laver Arena (tennis), the Rectangular Stadium (soccer), and the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCR), colour palette denotes Autumn. The landscape frame a the bottom of this painting depicts a panoramic view of Melbourne and possible future of our cityscapes. The colour palette is not necessarily of the actual building facades and materials but it reflects foliage, vegetation and more interestingly, human emotions, yes, buildings respond the emotional state of their occupiers and inhabitants.
